When a feeling arrives

Some people name it. Some stay with it. Some set it down so they can act. The quiz asks which move you make first.

Put a word on it

Naming a feeling makes it smaller and more exact. Anger that is actually disappointment can be dealt with. Anger that stays a weather system just fills the room.

The cost is delay. You can spend the meeting looking for the right word while the decision leaves without you.

Stay with it

Staying means you do not rush the feeling into a task. You let it be there until you know what it is asking. Friends often want this from you, and you often want it from them.

The cost is rumination. A feeling you will not set down can become the whole afternoon. Staying is useful. Camping is a different habit.

Set it down so you can act

Some days the feeling is real and the email still has to go. Setting it down is a skill when the deadline is the point. It is a problem when the people around you never hear what the feeling was.

None of the three is the mature one. The quiz shows which you reach for first. The one you avoid is usually the one a hard week needs.
