Time alone before the meeting
9 Feb 2026
Some of the real thinking happens before anyone speaks. The meeting is where you bring it, not where you find it.
Before, not during
If you do your real thinking before the meeting, a live brainstorm can feel like noise. You are not slow. You already spent the thinking. The room is asking you to do it again, in public, at their pace.
Say the conclusion early, then let people pull it apart. Waiting until you are sure reads as silence, and silence gets filled by someone else.
A day of interruptions
A day of interruptions can cost more than a difficult problem. The problem is at least one thing. The interruptions are twenty starts. If that sentence is true for you, protect one block and tell people when it is.
You can still be a person who helps. Helping on a schedule is different from helping every time a chat lights up.
Bring a scrap
If you think alone, bring a scrap into the room: three lines, a sketch, a question. People can react to a scrap. They cannot react to a thought you are still having.
The scrap does not have to be good. It has to be visible.
